In this issue of the magazine, we turn our attention to another form of hybridity, this time between poetry and prose. The sight of the naked body, exposed, dissected, and laid bare before anyone willing to look, has become almost commonplace for those who consume, whether eagerly or reluctantly, the countless forms of media at our disposal. A kind of visual desensitization has taken hold. It is no longer unusual to abandon the sense of modesty that once defined earlier generations, who, if they could observe us today, might believe they had been transported into a modern day Sodom and Gomorrah. The liberation of the body’s movement is often hindered because it is commonly perceived as going hand in hand with a loosening of moral conventions. In this volume, you will find a selection of poems inspired by works of art that engage with the theme of the body.
